We are pleased to present this year's Youth & Innovation Leadership Finalists. This award is presented to a female junior or senior high school student who has demonstrated exceptional academic achievements in technology or science, or who has displayed inventiveness or creativity in said fields.

Sivani is a STEM advocate that aspires to have her own dental practice
Bio
Sivani Arvapalli is a senior at South Windsor High School. She is the technology captain of her science olympiad team and placed numerous medals in state-wide competitions. She is highly involved with FIRST robotics. She has mentored various FIRST Lego League (FLL) teams and hosted her town’s first FLL event with South Windsor FIRST. She is also the president of the Interact club and vice-president of the Model UN club.

Through my major in Biochemistry and Molecular/Cellular Biology, I am pursuing a career in the medical field.
Bio
Emily is passionate about her future in the field of STEM. She has been co-captain of both the Sikorsky STEM Challenge Team and the Science Bowl team. She also co-founded the Science Bowl Club and organized Tech Week to encourage interest in STEM. Emily conducted an independent research prokect on Biofilms which won a second place title at the CT STEM Fair. She looks forward to continuing her research in college.

Sarah aspired to study music composition and chemical engineering with a focus on sustainable energy.
Bio
Sarah enjoys researching sustainable living, quality education, and storytelling through game development. She is currently developing an indie game that highlights the dangers of plastic pollution and her passion for music. Sarah has been a member of the Future Problem Solvers since freshman year and as president of the Tri-M Music Honors Society at a neighboring school, she is working with the faculty to improve music education in her community.

One small step for regenerative medicine research today is one giant leap for medicine, for positively changing people’s lives.
Bio
Alexandra graduated from Joel Barlow High School this year and is currently studying engineering at the University of Pennsylvania. While at Barlow, Alexandra pursued a regenerative medicine research internship at Yale’s Niklason Lab. Her research in cellular communication at the genetic level received Top 300 designation in the Regeneron Science Talent Speech competition and is undergoing publication. Outside of school, Alexandra represented synchronized skating Team USA, winning the 2019 Junior World bronze medal in Neuchatel, Switzerland.

WENDY ZHANG

Wendy is passionate about the intersection between education and public health.
Bio
As a student leader, Wendy is an advocate for public health. She wrote policy with her school’s COVID reopening committee, volunteered in a clear-mask research team, and conducted original research at Yale University. Her research focuses on the differentiation process of B-cells (white blood cells). Additionally, Wendy was an Amity Debate Team Captain, National Honors Society President, and a STEM tutor. Wendy is now and undergraduate at Yale University.
